Safe at home

Home safety audits and upgrades for women experiencing domestic or family violence

Safe at Home provides free safety planning, home safety audits and upgrades for women experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) domestic or family violence. Our goal is to support women to remain safely in their home or a home of their choosing.

Who can access Safe at Home services

You can access Safe at Home services if you identify as female and are not living with the person putting your safety at risk, and your safety is at risk because you:

  • are (or are at risk of) experiencing violence now
  • have experienced domestic or family violence in the past.

You can be renting, in public or community housing or own your home. Some elements of the service may be dependent on owners’ approval.

Services you can access

Safe at Home can provide and pay for safety audits and security upgrades to your home, whether it’s your current home or a new home you’re moving to.

These upgrades may include:

  • alarms
  • duress buttons
  • locks and screens
  • technology audits
  • other security measures

You will work with a specialist worker to decide what will make you feel the safest in your home.

How Safe at Home works

A specialist worker will meet with you in person or over the phone. They will:

  • talk to you about your safety concerns
  • create a plan with you to increase your safety
  • assess your home, identify risks and organise upgrades to increase your safety.

Safe at Home can help you get approvals from your landlord, including community housing or SA Housing Authority.

If Safe at Home is not right for you, we can warmly refer you to other services.
