Workplace Responses to Domestic and Family Violence
Anyone can be subjected to domestic and family violence. If you are in a leadership position in your workplace, this course will help you support the wellbeing of all employees by building your skills in responding to disclosures of domestic and family violence.

Domestic and family violence is a widespread and deeply harmful social issue, the impact of which spreads far beyond the home. By building skills in understanding, recognising and responding to domestic and family violence, people in leadership positions across all professional settings can do their part to create a safer workplace and community.
In this course, participants will learn why domestic and family violence is a workplace issue, how to recognise domestic and family violence, the link between gender inequality and domestic and family violence, and the importance of safe/respectful workplace culture for effective workplace responses.
This workshop also covers how to leaders can respond to disclosures of domestic and family violence in a trauma-informed manner, and how to create a workplace safety plan.
What will you learn
- Understand the dynamics, prevalence and drivers of domestic and family violence in Australia
- Recognise the tactics and patterns of behaviour undertaken by people using violent, abusive and controlling behaviour within relationships
- Understand coercive control as a context and course of conduct in domestic and family violence
- Understand the ways people resist and respond to the domestic and family violence
- Recognise key elements that contribute to a supportive workplace response
- Identify key risk factors relevant to workplace responses to domestic and family violence
- Consider important elements in creating safety plans in the workplace with people subjected to domestic and family violence
- Understand referral options and processes for specialist domestic and family violence support
